WTO Issues Blueprint for Final Agricultural Deal

Two revised papers including what could become the formulas for cutting tariffs and trade-distorting agricultural subsidies in a final deal were issued on 19 May 2008. They are the outcome of the latest discussions in negotiation groups and will pave the way for talks combining the subjects before they are agreed by all WTO member governments.

EU Commission Proposes Nutrition Labeling Changes

In an effort to stop inconsistent labeling across Europe and to assist consumers to consume healthier diets, the EU Commission has proposed stricter new regulations. Amongst the changes being considered are a definition for dietary fiber, updating the Recommended Daily Allowances and changing the energy conversion factors in European labeling amendments.

FDA Launches Interactive Consumer Websites

Under the title "Food Safety, Nutrition and Cosmetic Information and Campaigns," the FDA has launched an interactive consumer website that has topics ranging from Food Labeling and Nutrition to information for Kids & Teens to explaining the FightBAC! Safe food handling campaign. It is the agency's hope, that these tools will assist the public in making better choices in stores and in their every day lives.
