Introduction

Auf Deutsch

You can buy food at almost every street corner. What you eat is generally safe and fresh. Most of us have a full refrigerator or pantry at home and can eat as much as we want at any given moment. So, why bother thinking about food?

There are many good reasons why you should. Food and especially the way we eat has an enormous influence on our daily lives, our health and happiness - more than most of us know or would acknowledge.

Can you answer the following 10 questions?

  1. How much do you eat every day?
  2. Do you remember what you ate last week on Tuesday?
  3. What kind of food do you need to stay healthy?
  4. What makes food taste good?
  5. What makes food safe or poisonous?
  6. Who produces the food that you eat every day? Where do the ingredients come from?
  7. Why do so many people go hungry every day around the world (even in the USA)?
  8. Why are so many people who are overweight or even obese?
  9. Why should you care about hunger and obesity?
  10. Will there be enough food for everyone 10 years or 50 years from now?

This section of our website will teach you the basics of food literacy. You will find out how food influences our bodies, minds, friendships, even whole communities and societies around the world. We want to encourage you to think about the role that food plays in your life, make you aware of what and how you eat, and what food means in your relationships with others.

We hope you enjoy this section. If you have any questions, comments or feedback, please go the "Black Board" community page on myFood From Germany. We appreciate your interest and would love to hear from you.
