Milwaukee, WI
Jul 24 - Jul 27, 2008
There are 4 bigs stages and several smaller stages featuring German bands, folk dancers and ethnic entertainment.
The children's area puts on some plays for the kids, has a craft zone and a Pretzel Park. Here the kids can make their own Germanfest T-shirt, buy edelweiss, and play German board games and video games.
The culture tent has exhibits from all the Milwaukee area German clubs and theme displays of German Americans who have made substantial contributions.
In addition there is a geneaology department, German movies, and German craftsmen.
In the middle of the park is a Kaufzentrum for buying German nutcrackers, smokers, linens, Dirndl und Lederhosen as well as other items.
Dachshund races are a big hit. A 5K run/walk is held on Thursday evening and a beautiful church service is done on Sunday morning in both German and English.
Of course the food and drinks are out of this world. Much of it is made and served by the German clubs including roasting the pigs and chickens.
There is much to see and do, smell and taste, and enjoy the Gemuetlichkeit! For more information, visit the Germanfest web page.

Throughout September, German and German-Americans are celebrating their culture in music and art, in song and spoken word, even in sports. All is culminating in the 51th German-American Steuben Parade (20th of September).
Since 1957, German-Americans have celebrated their heritage and the friendship between the "alte Heimat" and their new home with one of the most colorful, most spectacular Parades in New York City. More than 30 clubs from Germany, e.g. music and dance groups or carnival associations, are welcomed to the the Steuben Parade.
